armoured ship Thursday on Friday

i had planned to discourse on a couple of Peruvian Navy monitors but could not find all the info i needed. until then here are some interesting pictures of Royal Italian Navy battleships. first is the old late 19th century battleship Sicilia running her speed trials when new. next we have the more modern Littorio and Vitorio Veneto firing their main battery guns in 1940. third is an older ship the Roma and fourth we have the Caio Duilio. fifth is the Giulio Cesare as built. she was later modified for more powerful main battery and engines for more speed. in WW2 the Italian Navy should have ruled the Mediterranean but did not. they mostly chose to stay in port and when they did find the British Navy or vice versa they mostly ran away or lost the battle. their ships, enlisted men, petty officers and junior officers were up to the task but the men in control were not.
