Sunday Warship

assuming the white man's burden Yangtze River Gunboats protected commerce from the heathen Chinee.   first picture is of HMS Cockchafer, 2nd is USS Helena, 3rd IJN Hozu.  next to last picture is of USS San Pablo cruising in one of the Yangtze River gorges.  San Pablo is a fictional ship but still exemplifies duty on the Yangtze quite well.  read the book "The Sand Pebbles" for a good story of these times.  and last is a picture of HMS Nemesis destroying chinese war junks in 1841.
